Fort Dunree was first opened to the public in 1986 and has attracted tourists from all over the world ever since. It is a must see for every visitor to this part of Donegal.

Fort Dunree provides the following facilities:

The Fort Dunree Military Museum uses the latest DVD and interactive technology to explain in a vibrant way the unique history and present day role of Fort Dunree. A visit to the museum will include a video film presentation in the audio-visual auditorium, access to museum displays which fully demonstrate life at Fort Dunree, showing its crucial role in costal defence, neutrality protection and a range of coastal artillery. The underground bunkers also contain a collection of artefacts that give insight into the day to day operation of the Fort.

There are fabulous walks around  Fort Dunree with magnificent views of Lough Swilly. A series of signposted footpaths allow the visitor to explore at their own pace. Detailed information boards, shelters, picnic tables and benches help to create a memorable experience whether you are a first time or regular visitor. This spectacular natural location is  also rich in flora and fauna, some of it unique to the area. This is portrayed in a beautiful wildlife exhibition in the old fort hospital.
